# Inspect Network Status

> Show the node's listening state, established peer count, and network ID.

Use `network status` for a compact first check of the node's devp2p connectivity.

## Command

```sh theme={null}
rex network status
```

## Example Output

```text theme={null}
NETWORK STATUS
Listening:   yes
Peers:       12
Network ID:  1
```

## How It Works

The command reads three methods from the standard `net` namespace:

| Field | JSON-RPC method | Meaning |
| - | - | - |
| Listening | `net_listening` | Whether the networking component reports that it accepts connections |
| Peers | `net_peerCount` | Number of established peer connections |
| Network ID | `net_version` | Decimal network identifier, normally corresponding to the chain ID |

The peer count is a snapshot. Use [Peers](/docs/network/peers) when you need the identity, direction, and capabilities of each established session.
